Toyota has unveiled the all-new sixth-generation RAV4, the latest evolution of one of the world's most popular SUVs. First introduced in 1994, the RAV4 pioneered the crossover SUV segment by blending car-like handling with off-road capability. Over the past three decades, it has become a global bestseller, with over 15 million units sold worldwide, including 2.5 million in Europe.

The latest model retains the RAV4’s rugged styling, but introduces a more refined design and a next-generation plug-in hybrid system. It also features Toyota’s new Arene software platform, which enables advanced driver-assistance features and over-the-air updates.

It is only available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or a full hybrid in Europe

The new RAV4 will be available in Europe exclusively as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or a full hybrid, in line with Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to achieving carbon neutrality. The PHEV variant boasts a 22.7 kWh battery, offering up to 100 km (WLTP) of electric-only range - an improvement on the previous model. It also supports 50 kW DC fast charging, enabling a charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes, as well as an 11 kW AC charger for home use.

Performance has also been upgraded: the all-wheel-drive PHEV produces 304 DIN hp and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. For buyers seeking efficiency without AWD, a new front-wheel-drive PHEV option with 268 DIN hp has been added.

Toyota has also introduced geo-fencing technology which automatically adjusts the hybrid system based on location, switching to electric mode when entering low-emission zones for example.
GR Sport Model for Enthusiasts

For drivers seeking a sportier experience, the GR SPORT trim offers a wider track, performance-tuned suspension and 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, sports seats, aluminium pedals and red accents draw inspiration from Toyota’s Gazoo Racing motorsport division.
Advanced safety and software

The RAV4 is the first Toyota to utilise the Arene software platform, enabling features such as:

  • Front Cross Traffic Alert (warns of oncoming vehicles at intersections)
  • Enhanced Lane Change Assist (which automatically steers during motorway lane changes).
  • Remote Advanced Park (allowing smartphone-controlled parking).
  • It also receives over-the-air updates to keep safety systems current.

The infotainment system has also been upgraded to include a 12.9-inch touchscreen, Google Points of Interest integration and voice control for the climate and navigation systems.
Market availability:

Toyota has not yet announced pricing or exact launch dates, but the new RAV4 is expected to reach European dealerships in late 2025.
