BMW has introduced an all-wheel-drive version of its M2 coupé, equipping the high-performance model with the M xDrive system for the first time. The new M2 xDrive is set to arrive in European showrooms in late summer 2026.

The 3.0-litre straight-six engine remains unchanged, producing 480 hp and 600 Nm of torque. However, the addition of all-wheel drive and an Active M Differential improves traction, reducing the 0-100 km/h acceleration time to 3.7 seconds - 0.3 seconds quicker than the rear-wheel-drive version. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), or 285 km/h (177 mph) with the optional M Driver's Package.

The M2 xDrive is only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission, whereas the rear-wheel-drive M2 continues to offer a manual option. Drivers can select 2WD mode via the M Setup menu to send all power to the rear wheels with DSC deactivated, providing a purer driving experience.

The engine features BMW's new M Ignite pre-chamber combustion technology, which reduces fuel consumption under high loads, benefiting track-day enthusiasts who want to extend the time between fuel stops. Combined fuel consumption is rated between 9.7 and 10.2 litres per 100 km.

A new exterior colour, BMW Individual Borusan Turkish Blue, is available for the M2 for the first time. Like other M2 models, the xDrive version is built at BMW's San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

The M2 xDrive broadens the appeal of BMW's compact coupé for European buyers by offering year-round usability in wet or snowy conditions without compromising the rear-wheel-drive character that enthusiasts expect. Those who still prefer to slide the tail can simply switch to 2WD mode.
