Chevrolet revives the Grand Sport with a new 6.7-litre V8 engine and an all-wheel-drive

Chevrolet has introduced the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X, reviving a nameplate with roots in the racing programme of the early 1960s. Both models are powered by a new 6.7-litre LS6 V8 engine, marking the sixth generation of Chevrolet's small-block V8 family.
This naturally aspirated engine delivers an impressive 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine ever produced by Chevrolet. It has a larger displacement than its predecessor and features a 13:1 compression ratio and a new lubrication system for enhanced durability.

The standard Grand Sport retains rear-wheel drive and is aimed at purists seeking a focused driving experience. It comes with Magnetic Ride Control and two performance packages: the Z52 Sport Package, which features stiffer suspension and summer tyres; and the Z52 Track Package, which features carbon-ceramic brakes and track-focused tyres.
The Grand Sport X adds a front-axle electric motor and compact battery pack to create an all-wheel drive system with a combined output of 721 horsepower. This includes driver-selectable modes for endurance, qualifying and push-to-pass, as well as an electric-only Stealth mode for low-speed movement. The X variant follows the naming convention established by the Corvette ZR1X.
Exterior styling cues include the relocation of the Grand Sport hash marks to the rear fenders in honour of the mid-engine layout. Admiral Blue Metallic is making a comeback from the C4 era, and buyers can choose from hundreds of colour combinations for the signature centre stripe and hash marks.

Both models will be built at GM's Bowling Green Assembly plant from summer 2026 onwards, with the LS6 engines being assembled in Flint, Michigan. Although Chevrolet's press release focuses on the North American market, the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X may be available from authorised Corvette dealers in Europe. The Stingray will also receive the LS6 engine and updated suspension calibrations in 2027.
