This is a Saab 900 Cabrio Monte Carlo, a special model produced by Saab in a limited edition in 1991. The chassis number identifies it as a 1991 model year. It was first registered in 1992 at a Saab dealership in Hamburg. After a brief spell with an owner from Schleswig-Holstein, it spent a longer period with an actor and director in Hamburg. The vehicle then moved to a Saab enthusiast in the Rhineland and from there back to the former Saab dealer Wedde in Hamburg. I discovered it there by chance during a visit, covered by a tarpaulin.
After some hesitation, Mr Wedde agreed to sell it to me, and so the car came to me in 2004. Since then, it has been in retirement with me, so to speak. It was only driven in the summer when the weather was nice and otherwise always stood protected in a garage. Of course, all invoices since 2004 are available.
The following can be said about the car itself: for a 29-year-old used car, it is in excellent condition - after all, it is no ordinary used car. Connoisseurs are aware of the special status of the 1991 Monte Carlo models.
In 1992, the car dealership probably fitted the dashboard with wood panelling and removed the factory-fitted serial number. Unfortunately, Saab does not have any documents that would allow the number to be reconstructed. However, based on the other features, the car can clearly be identified as a Monte Carlo.
A report from 2004 confirms this. Technically, it is in perfect condition, with no maintenance backlog or similar issues. In 2006, it was fitted with a brand new gearbox, which has now covered approx. 16,000 km. The engine runs smoothly and cleanly, and the gearbox shifts perfectly. Simply an honest classic car with potential for appreciation and lots of driving pleasure. It is eligible for an H registration plate, but with the current seasonal registration plate and the retrofitted cold start regulator (Euro 2), normal registration is cheaper.
It has now become our second convertible, because we bought a more modern convertible for longer journeys. That's why it stood unused in the garage for some time after a problem with the starter motor. I didn't have time because other projects took priority. In March this year, I got it running again. It has been given fresh oil and a new starter motor.
The pictures show that the car is in good condition, but please do not expect a new car. All electrical aids, i.e. window regulators, soft top and electric mirrors, are in working order. The same applies to the cruise control, air conditioning and central locking components.
