The new Toyota Hilux has debuted in Europe with hybrid and electric options

The all-new Toyota Hilux made its European debut at the Brussels Motor Show, marking the arrival of the ninth generation of this iconic pick-up truck. For the first time, it will be available with a battery electric (BEV) powertrain, as well as a 48V mild-hybrid diesel option.
The electric Hilux BEV features a 59.2 kWh battery and dual electric motors providing all-wheel drive, and has a claimed WLTP range of up to 257 km. According to Toyota, it retains core Hilux traits such as body-on-frame construction, a wading depth of 700 mm and a payload capacity of 715 kg, although the towing capacity is reduced to 1.6 tonnes.
The 48V mild-hybrid version is expected to be the best-seller in Europe. This uses a 2.8-litre diesel engine supported by a 48-volt system to improve refinement and efficiency, while retaining a one-tonne payload and a 3.5-tonne towing capacity.

Both versions feature updated exterior styling and will be offered exclusively in a double-cab configuration. The Hilux BEV is scheduled to go on sale in Europe in April 2026, with the hybrid diesel following in July. This dual-powertrain strategy reflects Toyota's "multipath" approach to electrification, offering different solutions for commercial and fleet customers.
