The Mission S is a vision model that offers a glimpse of the brand's future design direction, as well as a new platform for mid-engined supercars positioned above the 911.

According to Porsche's CEO, Dr Michael Leiters, the Mission S is not a one-off hypercar, but rather a preview of an expansion of the model range. The company has confirmed that it is developing a new mid-engined platform for a future supercar positioned above the 911.

The exterior design draws inspiration from various historic Porsche models. The round headlights and torpedo-shaped wings are reminiscent of the 911; the flat front end is inspired by the 911 GT1; and the roofline beneath the rear wing references the 959. A continuous main line connects the light signatures at the front and rear, while the 'car-in-car' concept at the rear is derived from the GT1. The wheels are inspired by the dial design of the 928.

Inside, the focus is on the driver. Two lines running across the dashboard and doors pay homage to the 550 Spyder and the 356. There is no fixed, integrated central display or passenger screen. Instead, a retractable smartphone holder with MagSafe technology can be used as required. The five-tube instrument panel features an analogue rev counter with a display behind it.

For European enthusiasts, the Mission S is a promising sign. While Porsche has not yet confirmed a production version, the commitment to a new mid-engined platform above the 911 is an interesting statement of intent. The big question is whether the production version will retain the concept's analogue layout with three pedals or if Porsche will tone this down. Let's hope the production model is at least as bold.
