Nissan unveils all-electric Micra with Renault 5-inspired design

Paris, France – Nissan has unveiled the sixth-generation Micra, signalling its move into the world of fully electric vehicles (EVs) as it re-enters the B-segment later this year. Built on the same platform as the Renault 5, the new model shares a striking resemblance to its French counterpart while offering distinct Nissan styling cues.
Design: Bold Yet Familiar
Designed at Nissan’s European design centre in London, the new Micra has an SUV-inspired stance, clean lines and 18-inch wheels. It is available in 14 colour combinations with a two-tone roof option. The front end features signature lighting with a 'welcome wink' animation, and the rear boasts circular LED taillights. Despite its fresh look, the Micra’s proportions and overall silhouette closely mirror those of the Renault 5, highlighting their shared underpinnings.
Electric Performance & Charging
The Micra will be available with two battery options:
- 40 kWh: 90 kW power, 225 Nm torque, 308 km range
- 52 kWh: 110 kW power, 245 Nm torque and a range of 408 km.
Both variants support fast charging. The 52 kWh model can achieve a 15–80% charge in 30 minutes using a 100 kW DC charger. Standard features include a heat pump and battery thermal management, as well as vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality for powering external devices.
Interior & Tech:
Inside, the Micra has a minimalist cabin featuring a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster and a matching central touchscreen. Subtle nods to Nissan’s Japanese heritage include the design of the Mount Fuji-inspired storage compartment. Three interior trims - Modern, Audacious and Chill - cater to different tastes.
Driving dynamics:
Built on the AmpR Small platform (previously the CMF-B EV), the Micra features multi-link rear suspension for enhanced handling. Its lightweight construction (1,400–1,524 kg) and low-placed battery aim to deliver agile urban driving.
Safety & Connectivity
It comes equipped with Nissan’s ProPilot Assist and a suite of driver aids, while the NissanConnect system with Google integration provides real-time charging data and remote controls via a smartphone app.
Pricing & availability
The electric Micra will go on sale in Europe later this year, competing in the increasingly crowded small EV segment. Although its Renault 5 roots are evident, Nissan emphasises its unique design and driving experience as key selling points.
