Toyota has introduced the all-electric Urban Cruiser, extending its range of battery-electric SUVs into the competitive B-segment. The new model is part of Toyota's wider commitment to electric vehicles, alongside the bZ4X and the forthcoming C-HR+ and Hilux BEV.

Built on a new dedicated EV platform, the Urban Cruiser will be offered with two battery options. The 49 kWh battery provides a range of up to 344 km (WLTP), while the larger 61 kWh battery offers a range of up to 426 km. An all-wheel-drive version with the larger battery is also available, with a targeted range of 395 km. Toyota emphasises the use of durable lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology and provides a long-term battery warranty.
Designed as a 'true SUV', the vehicle prioritises interior space and practicality. It features a sliding and split-folding rear seat system, as well as a 2,700 mm wheelbase, which, according to Toyota, rivals the cabin space of larger SUVs. The interior features a fully digital dashboard with integrated 10.25-inch driver and 10.1-inch multimedia screens.

The Urban Cruiser is entering a fiercely competitive market, competing with well-established electric models such as the Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia Niro EV and Volkswagen ID.3. Its success will likely depend on its pricing in the real world, its driving dynamics, and whether Toyota's reputation for reliability can attract buyers in a market with many other attractive options. A practical interior and a long battery warranty could be key selling points.
