At ZCON, the annual gathering of the Z Car Club Association in Phoenix, Arizona, Nissan unveiled the Z Kaze concept. The concept is a retro design that brings the T-top roof back to the current Nissan Z, a feature last seen on the 300ZX in the 1990s.
The T-top consists of two removable roof panels separated by a central beam. Nissan says the design pays homage to the open-air tradition of the Z series, which offered T-tops from 1980 until the end of production of the 300ZX in 2000.
The bodywork is finished in Pacific Teal, a colour that pays homage to 1990s motoring culture. The car features a carbon-fibre bonnet with ventilation slots, flared wheel arches, a ducktail spoiler and a bespoke aerodynamic kit. The car sits on restored 18-inch NISMO LMGT2 alloy wheels. The interior features white leather upholstery with carbon-fibre trim and Bose speakers in the headrests.
Under the bonnet, the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 remains, but with a number of GReddy components such as an exhaust system, intercooler and air filter. The suspension is also fitted with NISMO components.
Nissan describes the project as a labour of love by its product planners and designers, rather than a product announcement. For European enthusiasts, it is unlikely that the concept will make it to showrooms; the standard Z isn't even available in Europe.
