Toyota has officially unveiled the new Land Cruiser FJ, a compact and playful addition to its legendary off-road lineage. Set to go on sale in Japan around mid-2026, it was revealed at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. Designed to deliver "Freedom & Joy", it allows owners to enjoy the Land Cruiser in their own unique way.
The FJ establishes a distinct identity within the Land Cruiser family, alongside the flagship 300 Series, the reliable 70 Series and the 250 Series, which takes a more basic approach. Notably more compact than its siblings, the new model boasts a length of 4.58 metres and a wheelbase that is 270 mm shorter than the 250 Series', promising superior manoeuvrability on and off the road. Its design fuses traditional and modern elements, featuring a rectangular, dice-like body with chamfered edges; a square cabin for practicality; and removable corner bumpers that facilitate repairability and customisation.

Beneath the surface, it utilises a tried-and-tested platform to provide vital ground clearance and boasts wheel articulation equivalent to the robust 70 Series. Power comes from a 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 163 hp and 243 Nm of torque, sent to all four wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Despite its more compact and agile nature, Toyota emphasises that the FJ has been rigorously tested to ensure it possesses true 'Land Cruiser-ness' in terms of reliability, durability and off-road performance.

The interior is designed for functionality and ease of use, with a low cowl and beltline to provide excellent visibility when driving on rough terrain. Toyota is also placing a strong emphasis on customisation, planning to offer accessories such as round headlights for a retro touch and MOLLE panels for attaching outdoor gear.
