Predicting future classics is never easy. If it were, everyone would already have bought them.

The cars that become truly desirable are rarely the obvious choices. Often, they are the models that capture a unique moment in automotive history, such as the last naturally aspirated engine, the final manual transmission, an unusual engineering concept or a bold design that seemed ahead of its time.

With the automotive world moving rapidly towards electrification, many of today's cars for enthusiasts may represent the end of an era.

Here are ten modern cars that we believe could become highly sought-after classics over the next decade.

Alpine A110

1. Alpine A110

The Alpine A110 feels like a car from another era.

While most modern sports cars have become larger, heavier and more powerful, Alpine has taken a different approach. Its lightweight construction, compact footprint and exceptional handling make the A110 one of the purest driver's cars of the modern era.

It is already popular with enthusiasts, but its rarity across much of Europe could make it even more desirable in future.

Toyota Yaris GR

2. Toyota GR Yaris

The GR Yaris should not exist.

Built as a homologation special with rally-inspired engineering, all-wheel drive and a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, it feels more like a 1990s rally car than a modern hatchback.

In an era dominated by electric vehicles, the GR Yaris may well be remembered as one of the last truly uncompromising hot hatches.

Alfa Romeo Giualia Quadrifoglio

3. Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

No list of future classics would be complete without an Alfa Romeo.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio boasts breathtaking styling, a charismatic twin-turbo V6 engine, and one of the best driving experiences available in a modern sports saloon.

While it may never have sold in huge numbers, this could become part of its appeal.

BMW M2 G87

4. BMW M2 (G87)

Opinion is divided on the latest M2.

While some enthusiasts love it, others criticise its size and styling. However, history shows that controversial BMW M cars often age remarkably well.

With rear-wheel drive, a powerful straight-six engine and a manual gearbox still on offer, the M2 could well be one of the last great BMWs for enthusiasts.

Honda Civic Type R FL5

5. Honda Civic Type R (FL5)

The Civic Type R has spent decades building up a loyal following.

The latest FL5 model continues this tradition, offering a manual gearbox, superb chassis tuning and everyday usability.

Cars like this are becoming increasingly rare, and rarity often breeds future classics.

Audi RS6 Avant C8

6. Audi RS6 Avant (C8)

The fast estate car is a uniquely European automotive tradition.

The RS6 Avant combines the practicality required for family life with the performance of a supercar, all wrapped up in a body style that enthusiasts adore.

Should large V8-powered estate cars disappear from the market, demand for vehicles such as the RS6 could increase significantly.

Mazda MX5 ND

7. Mazda MX-5 ND

Not every future classic needs six cylinders and 500 horsepower.

The ND-generation MX-5 remains faithful to the original formula of being lightweight, simple and fun.

While it may never become expensive, it is highly likely to become one of the defining cars for enthusiasts of its generation.

BMW i8

8. BMW i8

The BMW i8 is arguably the most controversial car on this list.

While its appearance is futuristic, its performance has never quite matched it, and its hybrid powertrain is more complex than that of many traditional sports cars.

Nevertheless, the i8 remains one of the most distinctive vehicles of the 21st century. Its dramatic styling, innovative construction, and sci-fi aesthetic make it a strong candidate for future-classic status.

Sometimes, being different matters more than being perfect.

Toyota GR86

9. Toyota GR86

The GR86 was only available in limited quantities in several European markets, making it relatively rare from day one.

Its combination of rear-wheel drive, a naturally aspirated engine, a manual gearbox and an affordable price is becoming increasingly uncommon.

This combination has produced many beloved classics in the past.

Jaguar F-Type

10. Jaguar F-Type

The F-Type may ultimately be remembered as Jaguar's last great sports car.

With its charismatic V6 and V8 engines, beautiful proportions, and a head-turning soundtrack, it embodies everything enthusiasts love about traditional British sports cars.

As Jaguar prepares for the electric era, the F-Type's significance is set to grow.

Which modern cars did we miss?

Future classics are rarely predictable.

In ten years' time, one or two of the cars on this list may seem obvious choices. Others may surprise us. There is also always the possibility that a model that is completely unexpected will become the favourite of the next generation of collectors.

What would be on your list?
